The Impact of the Trump Administration's Reciprocal Tariffs and AI Chip Controls on Global Democratic Development
This symposium will invite distinguished domestic scholars in political economy and international relations to delve into the diverse impacts of the Trump administration’s “reciprocal tariffs” policy and export controls on AI chips on global democratic development. The discussion will focus on how these international economic measures affect trade and diplomatic relations among democratic countries, thereby influencing the development of multilateralism and shaping public opinion in democratic societies. In addition, the symposium will explore whether these policies are contributing to the emergence of new geopolitical alliances in the international community. The event will also analyze the concrete impacts and challenges these developments may pose for Taiwan’s industrial and social development, cross-strait relations, and the security of the Taiwan Strait.
